The Talking Therapies Practice
Transactional Analysis
is a theory developed by Dr. Eric Berne in the 1950s. Originally trained in psychoanalysis, Berne wanted a theory which could be understood and available to everyone and began to develop what came to be called Transactional Analysis (TA).
Today transactional analysis is considered an integrative approach to the theory of psychology and psychotherapy. It is described as integrative because it has elements of psychoanalytic, humanist and cognitive approaches.
Integrative Psychotherapy
brings together a number of therapeutic orientations.
The title Integrative refers both to the therapist’s state of training and understanding as well as the aim of the therapy carried out, that is to work toward integration in the person seeking therapy. Also, from the therapists point of view, in as much as an integrative psychotherapist has training and experience in more than one theoretical orientation.
